Uploading & Releases

You can set any future release date you like, on any release.

How far ahead to deliver

If you're pitching to Spotify editorial, deliver at least 7 days before your release date. That's the cut-off for a pitch to be eligible, and missing it is the most common way artists lose a playlist chance without ever knowing it happened.

In practice, 3 to 4 weeks ahead is the realistic recommendation. It gives editors time to actually listen, gives you a pre-save window, and leaves room to fix anything before the date locks in.

If you're not pitching and just want the music out, a few days is plenty. And if you want it out today, instant releases work too.

Releases go live at midnight local time

Not midnight your time, midnight in each country, in that country's own time zone.

Your release lands in New Zealand and Japan first, then rolls west across the day: Europe, then the UK, then the US East Coast, then LA.

So if your release date is Friday, it's already Friday somewhere while it's still Thursday afternoon where you are. Plan your announcement around the audience you care about most, not around your own clock.
