Metadata Guidelines
Uploading & Releases

Metadata is how stores identify, group and recommend your music. These are the formatting rules that actually matter.

Titles

  • No ALL CAPS. Write Midnight Drive, not MIDNIGHT DRIVE, most stores reject it or silently rewrite it. Stylised lowercase is usually fine.
  • Version tags go in parentheses at the end: (Radio Edit), (Acoustic), (Live at Elsewhere), (Sped Up).
  • Don't stuff the field. No "prod. by", no "Official Audio", no genre labels.

List them twice: in the artist field as a featured artist, and in the track title as (feat. Name).

Stores use the field for credit and search, and the title for display. Missing either one is a common send-back.

Your artist name

Spell it identically on every release, forever, same capitalisation, same spacing, same punctuation. This is what ties your whole catalogue to one artist profile.

Sam Rivers and SAM RIVERS become two separate artists on Spotify, and merging them afterwards is slow.

Language

The language field means the language of the title, not the lyrics. A Spanish-language song called Ghost is tagged as English.

If something's off

We catch it at review and ask you to fix it, before your music is anywhere public. Metadata is the most common reason a release comes back, and also the quickest thing to fix. It costs you a few minutes and nothing else.
