My Music Is on the Wrong Artist Profile. How Do I Fix It?
Distribution & Stores

It happens most often when two artists share a name. Stores file releases under an artist, and a name on its own doesn't tell them which of two artists you are. To fix it, report it to the store, tell your distributor, and make sure your future releases point at your exact profile.

What it looks like

Spotify describes three versions of the same problem:

  • Your music is on a different artist's profile
  • Another artist's music is on your profile
  • Your catalog is split across more than one profile

Apple Music notes that albums from more than one artist can end up on the same artist page, especially when the artists have the same name.

Fix it on Spotify

  1. Report it in Spotify for Artists using the content mismatch form. Spotify emails you once it's fixed.
  2. Catch it before release day if you can. Upcoming releases show under Music, then Upcoming. If one there isn't yours, click the button next to it and choose Report incorrect release.
  3. Tell your distributor too. Spotify points out that mix-ups like this usually show up on every streaming service, and a report to Spotify only fixes Spotify.

No Spotify for Artists access yet? Claim your profile first. See How to Get Verified on Spotify.

Spotify is also testing Artist Profile Protection with a limited group of artists. If you have it, Spotify tells you when a release is delivered with your name on it, and you can remove yourself from eligible releases that aren't yours, up to 28 days after they go live. To check, open the user menu from your avatar in Spotify for Artists and look for Artist Profile Protection. (Spotify: Protecting your artist profile)

Fix it on Apple Music

Apple fixes these by creating a new page or moving the album to the right one. To ask for it:

  1. Contact Apple Music for Artists and choose Artist Catalog Issues as the topic.
  2. Give Apple these four things:
    • Whether you're approved for Apple Music for Artists (yes or no)
    • Your artist name
    • Links to all of your albums
    • A link to your correct artist page

To copy a link in Apple Music, click the ellipsis (...) on the album or artist page, choose Share Album or Share Artist, then Copy Link.

Tell us

If the release came through MOOSYC, tell us and we'll take it to the store ourselves. Email support@moosyc.com or message @moosyc on Instagram, with:

  • Your artist name
  • Which release is in the wrong place, with a link to it
  • The link to your correct artist profile on that store

It helps to send the same links you'd give Spotify or Apple. See How We Protect Your Catalog for how we work with the stores.

Stop it happening again

Link your profiles in MOOSYC. When you add an artist, MOOSYC asks whether you've released music on Spotify or Apple Music, then which artist with your name you are on each one. Pick yours from the list. If it isn't there, paste the link to your artist profile under Can't find your profile?

Use your artist profile, not your listener account. Your Spotify and Apple Music artist profiles are different from the personal accounts you listen with.

Link a profile you skipped. If you haven't linked one yet, go to Distribute on the web, tap Edit, and choose the artist. On Edit Artist Profile, tap Link Spotify or Link Apple and paste your artist profile link. If the wrong profile is already linked, contact us and we'll sort it out.

First release? You don't have a profile to link yet. Spotify and Apple Music create one when your first release is delivered.

Pick the right featured artists. When you add a featured artist, choose the correct artist for Spotify, Apple Music and the other stores, not just the right name.

Spell your name the same way every time. Same capitalization, same spacing, same symbols. See Metadata Guidelines.

To find your Spotify artist link, go to your profile, click the three dots (or right-click your artist name), and choose Share, then Copy link to artist. (Spotify: Finding your links)

Release your music with MOOSYC — unlimited releases, $50 a year, keep 100% of your royalties.
