AWAL isn’t a self-serve distributor. It’s a Sony-owned label services company, and you’re in a signed agreement with them, so leaving is a contract question before it’s a takedown question.
Read your agreement first
Look for:
- Term: when it ends, and whether it renews automatically
- Notice period: how far ahead you need to tell them
- Exclusivity: whether these recordings are exclusive to AWAL right now
- Advances: whether anything is still unrecouped
Delivering the same recordings elsewhere while an exclusive term is running can put you in breach, so it’s worth being certain before you upload anything. If the wording isn’t clear, have a lawyer or your manager read it with you.
Once you’re clear
Give notice the way your agreement sets out, wait for AWAL to confirm the rights have come back to you, and then bring the recordings across with their original ISRCs. We’ll be here whenever your term is up.
